Well there’s either a lot you can say about Iron Maiden, going on and on and on for days or you can simply say their not only the greatest metal band of all time, they are in fact the greatest band of all time. Piece of Mind is one of the band’s most acclaimed albums, many fans consider it to be their best, personally I say top five but, for something that came out in 1983 it still holds up like a champ, proving that Iron Maiden is, in fact, timeless.
‘Where Eagles Dare’ An excellent way to start an album, once those drums kick in you know you’re off and running with Iron Maiden, then to kick it up a notch the guitars shred in too. Finally Bruce comes in and you’re in pure metal bliss. This song is everything that Iron Maiden is about, there’s even some gunfire that kicks in half way through for grand effect.
‘Revelations’ REVELATIONS! An amazing live song, an amazing song on record just a fucking amazing song. The beat is what really drives this song, even when Bruce comes in its less single high-pitched notes and more of jumping along the notes with each word.
‘Flight of Icarus’ Another fucking amazing song, the classic story of Icarus and his wings. This translates into a metal song flawlessly.
‘Die With Your Boots On’ A man’s song is this one, it’s all in the title, cause if you’re gonna die, die with your boots on!
‘The Trooper’ One of Iron Maiden’s most popular songs. The drums, guitar and bass all work to gallop along as Bruce spouts out the story of a fallen soldier.
‘Still Life’ A somewhat creepy backwards intro and then some soothing music are what brings you into this highly underrated Maiden tune.
‘Quest for Fire’ This album has three of my absolute favorite Maiden songs, this is one. Even with Die With Your Boots On on the album this may be the manliest song on the album. Follow the band back in time as they go on a quest for fire, discovery of man!
‘Sun and Steel’ Another very underappreashed Maiden song, and another song that makes men men.
‘To Tame a Land’ Iron Maiden is great at basically everything, but one that really stands out in this song is the ability to tell a tale through the lyrics in the song. When I listen to this I feel like I’m watching a movie or reading a book, or even living it. There’s really nothing better than that.
