FINALLY The Rock has…..MADE A GREAT MOVIE! Last year we were treated to another movie from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. A big difference between this movie and his previous ones, this one looked like it was actually going to be good. In the director’s seat you’ll find George Tillman Jr, director of Soul Food, Men of Honor and Notorious. In front of the camera you’ll see a few faces you know but the three biggest out of em are Billy Bob Thornton, Carla Gugino and of course Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock. Well it turns out my gut was right here, this movie ruled a lot. There were a few things I really liked about it, the biggest being that this is a good ol’ straight forward revenge story. The Rock starts out in prison, he was the driver in a robbery, after the robbery some bad shit went down and his brother was killed. Now he’s out of jail and on a mission to kill everyone responsible for his brother’s death. One by one he hunts them down, it’s great! So simple, a proven method for a good movie is used to perfection once again, but it doesn’t feel tired or old somehow. There’s a couple small nice sub-plots going on here but it doesn’t deter from the main focus of the movie, cold blooded revenge. There’s also a few pretty cool car chases. I think a big problem with most of The Rock’s movies is you still just see him as ‘The Rock in a movie’, but this was a little different, I’m not going to go out there and say he’s an amazing actor or anything, but this was a man with a gun hunting down people that wronged him. You didn’t expect to see a Rock Bottom or a DDT at any point didn’t expect some promo from the man, all you expected him to do was shoot people in the head, and that’s pretty much what you got.
