REVIEW: Tornado Rider: Jark Matter

This is the first time I’ve come across Tornado Rider, and I’ve got to say, I’m not quite sure what to make of them. They take some weirder punk/new wave stuff like the sounds of Oingo Boingo and Gogol Bordello and mix it with a metal and rock sound. I can’t quite tell if they’re attempting to make fun of metal or if they’re just super nerds. It’s really a conflicting thing, not knowing if you should really like or hate a band. Whatever they’re doing they seem like they’ve having fun so you’ve gotta give them that. Their Jark Matter album was put out by Silver Sporcket Bicycle Club back in October; it’s a pretty nice package you get here. The CD pack has a map of the band’s mystical land of sneth, has a set of 6 post-cards, pin, lyrics and an original story by eggleston. If you enjoy the band this is a sweet deal here, if you don’t, you’ve still got to give them props for the nice package they’ve put together. This is one of the few times that I can’t really say if you’ll like this band or not but if you’re into weird punk/new wave/rock you should at least give these guys a try.
