REVIEW: Hirax/Violator: Raging Thrash

How do you get two songs to equal almost a ten minute split? Why make it metal of course. Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records are here to serve up a double dose of metal with Hirax and Violator on one record.

‘Baptized by Fire’ Exactly what you expect from one of the best thrash bands in the business, fast heavy, thrash fucking metal. War, metal riffs, power flowing through the air. I could listen to this fucking song all day!
‘Futurephobia’ Violator is much newer to the thrash scene than Hirax but that doesn’t mean they rock any less harder. Another one of my favorite current thrash bands when I saw the split was them and Hirax I didn’t hesitate to pick it up and this song compliments Hirax’s perfectly. More fast thrash that keeps up the pace for over four minutes of thrash metal bliss.

REVIEW: Hirax: El Rostro De La Muerte

80′s thrash is back, Hirax brings a new album full of the energy and metalness that we’ve come to expect from these classic thrashers. Black Devil Records unleashes this assault of awesome on us and I’ve got to thank them for doing so. This is the best thrash album I’ve heard in a long long time. If you’re familiar with any of Hirax’s stuff fear not, this album has the same level of greatness as the rest, if you’re unfamiliar with the band then if you like thrash you should check them out immediately. This is what thrash should sound like, any shitty thrash bands out there, be on alert because Hirax is still kicking ass.

1. Baptized by Fire
2. Flesh and Blood
3. Eradicate Mankind
4. Chaos and Brutality
5. El Rostro de la Muerte (The Face of Death)

metalblade

Name: Metal Blade Records
Lifespan: 1982-present
Web Site: www.metalblade.com
Notable Releases/Bands: Amon Amarth, Anvil, Armored Saint, Bolt Thrower, Hirax, King Diamond, Lizzy Borden, Manowar, Mercyful Fate, Slayer, Vader
Info: Founded by Brian Slagel in 1982, headquarters in California, when you see Metal Blade on an album it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s going to be good, especially if it’s from the 80′s. When I’m taking a chance on a Metal album seeing that Metal Blade logo on the back is definitely a sell point. If you’re into heavy metal and power metal you can’t go wrong with old Metal Blade releases. Currently they’ve staggered and gotten more than a few shitty bands but they’ve got enough good ones still signed that I wouldn’t write them off yet.
