When you hear about this movie most people will talk about it being Heath Ledger’s last movie. Well actually first people will probably way ‘huh? what?’ But personally I could give a fuck about Heath Ledger, I’m a Terry Gilliam fanboy so I had to go see this movie. First off it’s pretty fucking trippy, which is no real shocker from a Gilliam flick. Secondly they fixed the problem of the lead actor’s untimely death in a pretty genius way, but I’ll get to that. The movie is basically about a ‘family’ of traveling showmen, or so you think, it really turns out to be part of a big game involving a deal with the devil (played awesomely by Tom Waits). As part of this show there stands a mirror, when you enter it you enter the mind of Doctor Parnassus, who shows you exactly what you want. Now here’s where we run into some problem fixers. Because we only had Heath Ledger through part of the movie the role will filled by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell (uuuugh) and Jude Law) in the fantasy world. Now truthfully Jude Law did an alright job, but you barley notice, Johnny Depp was knocking it out of the park like we all know he can do, so why they didn’t just get him to fill the roll is beyond me. And Colin Farrell does what he does best, tries his hardest to fuck up a movie with his beyond shitty acting. Luckily we had some great counter balances that help ease the kick in the nuts that is Fucking Farrell. Over all this is another Terry Gilliam masterpiece, I greatly enjoyed this movie, it’s a lot to take in and a bit weird but I already want to go back and see it again.
