The Sidebar – Baltimore, MD
Friday, March 7, 2014

This is being written while still covered in beer and sweat and the hangover starting to set in. All thanks to the following:

Trashkanistan – Possibly the most fun band Baltimore has to offer…and now they’re gone. If you say you didn’t have fun seeing Trashkanistan at any point, my only guess would be that you were in a coma at that time. Though even in a coma I’d have to assume you’d have a blast seeing this band. Always fun beyond expectations with a song catalog that’s pretty much hit after hit they went out there for their last show and again showed how great of a band they are/were. This is the most fun I’ve had since Insub Fest, it was a fucking blast. If you missed this set tonight you missed an incredible time. I’ll miss this band a bunch but if you’ve gotta go it may as well be after a set like this.

The Dewtons – The Dewtons are always pretty fun to see. They’re not my favorite band but they’ve got some good songs and always a lot of energy so I guess really there’s not much more you can ask from a band.

Beatnik Termites – It was really fucking weird seeing a basically completely new lineup from Beatnik Termites. The only one I recognize now is Pat. But that’s not too bad because they still sound great. It’s always fun seeing the Beatnik Termites, and if I ever say different punch me in the face.

BraceFace – I’ve seen BraceFace a bunch of times. They’re one of the better Baltimore bands and they’re really fucking good. And even with that this was still one of; if not the best time I’ve seen them. Their songs are great and they put on a fun show, there’s not much more you can ask for. Though I guess if you’re going to be a jerk and demand more, there’s always th

REVIEW: A Page Of Punk: Fool’s Punk Line

CoverHoly shit! Drunken Sailor Records scored a big hit with A Page Of Punk. The insanely great band from Tokyo, Japan doesn’t fuck around. Their album is forty nine songs and is still under thirty minutes! These songs are crazy, violent, happy and fast. They’re somewhere between thrash, punk, power violence and pop. They remind me a lot of another band from Japan I like a ton, Razor’s Edge! These songs blaze through in no time but still leave a lasting impression. They’re the type of band that’ll make you have a one man party and cheer you up when you’re down. If you like fast thrashy punk than A Page Of Punk’s Fool’s Punk Line is exactly what you need!

REVIEW: Et Tu Brute: Not in Our Stars

a4028928136_2Et Tu Brute is here with their Not in Our Stars EP, its six songs, all of them great. I think my favorite is either ‘Focus Schmocus’ or ‘Vengeance! Via Song.’. They have sort of an Alkaline Trio influenced sound to them (ya know, back when they were good) which is a thing that I like a LOT, but it just doesn’t sound like another band Et Tu Brute has their own distinctive sound for sure. These songs have great melodies and lyrics. ‘Not in Our Stars’ is an EP for people that miss that good Late 90’s-early 2000’s punk sound and Et Tu Brute is a band that you should keep your eye on for sure, I suspect they’ve got a lot of great things coming.

1. Hydrocodone II
2. Focus Schmocus
3. To Things Working Out
4. Vengeance! Via Song.
5. Tell Me How You Really Feel
6. Dellwood Park

REVIEW: Prabu Pramayougha: WAH!

CoverPrabu Pramayougha (formally of Saturday Night Karaoke) is back with another fucking great EP. Prabu has a great form of pop punk that’s equally as good as many of the best bands from the past ten years of pop punk, this one seems to have a little bit of a 90’s sound to it too though. Pretty simple songs that are catchy as fuck are going to have you listening to this a lot. There are the short songs (the first two, one of which being under thirty seconds) and the longer ones (the last two, the last one is over five minutes) and it all evens out. I hope the next release we get from Prabu Pramayougha is an album or at least a longer EP because I can’t get enough of this stuff.

1. Exp #48: How To Execute A Mushy Tune Abruptly
2. SSFLMD Numero Quatro
3. Keep On Dancing!
4. E.C.D.T.

REVIEW: Parasites / BraceFace / Jetty Boys / Outrights 4-way split 7″

CoverHere’s a 7″ record that I was pretty excited for, a four way split between the Parasites, BraceFace, Jetty Boys and Outrights. It comes by way of Eccentric Pop records and features a new song by each band! The Outrights are the only band I hadn’t heard of on here. Their song ‘Let’s Dance’ is a pretty rad rock/power pop song though there’s not a lot to the lyrics besides the song title. The Jetty Boys always with their long songs have the longest on this with ‘Stranger’ but it’s also super fucking catchy like their songs also are. I really don’t know how they do it, normally with a pop punk song over two minutes they don’t hold up too well but the Jetty Boys do it every time. Though the real gem of this record is the other side, it’s got the paring of the legendary Parasites and local (for me) pop punkers BraceFace! The Parasites song ‘Never Mean That Much To You’ is incredible, I love the new footing the band got when they released ‘Solitary’ and this song is one that would fit perfectly on there. This is by far the best song on here. Finally we’ve got BraceFace with ‘Cold Feet’ you’d think following the Parasites would be a disadvantage but BraceFace steps up to the plate with the second best song on the record. This one goes in my BraceFace top five. If you haven’t gotten into these guys yet you need to jump on that shit. Listening to them back to back with a band like the Parasites really shows you how good they are. So what’s not to like about this record? Four new and great songs by four rad bands go buy it.

1. Parasites – Never Mean That Much To You
2. BraceFace – Cold Feet
3. The Outrights – Let’s Dance
4. Jetty Boys – Stranger
