Quentin Tarantino jumps genre’s very well, I think he’s proved that with his past few movies and now he takes on westerns with his remake, or yet another sequel of Django. There are so many things I loved about this movie and so few things I didn’t like. Actually I’d say there were only two things I was dissatisfied with, it did drag for a little bit in a couple parts but this is just minutes we’re talking so it’s no giant deal, I just felt like fifteen minutes could have been cut. The other thing was that there was no machine gun in a coffin. But with a movie like this and those being my only two complaints I’d say that’s a giant success. Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson were all ready. Walton Goggins also popped up, I’ve been seeing him in more things since Justified has become a hit and that’s always great because the guy is real good. And Leonardio DiCaprio has once again proven the me of a few years ago wrong because he was also extremely good in this. Everybody did a great job. Franco Nero even had a cameo which is probably my favorite movie cameo since Bill Murray in Zombieland. The violence was of course at an extreme level because that’s just how Quentin Tarantino does things, I was having flashbacks to Robocop it was so nutty. Django Unchained is a very late entry into 2012 but it’s clearly one of the best movies of the year.

Director of both Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau has a crack at the movie adaptation of the 2006 graphic novel of the same name. It’s one of those movies that all I needed to do was hear the title and I was on board. The first thing you’ll notice about this one is the amazing cast. We’ve got the legendary Harrison Ford along with former Bond man Daniel Craig, it’s a great team for this movie but it doesn’t stop there. You’ll also probably take notice of Keith Carradine, Clancy Brown and Paul Dano, all of them have small parts but all are a perfect fit. You’ve also got a great job done by Olivia Wilde and if you watch the great show Justified you’ll probably catch the man that plays Boyd Crowder, Walton Goggins. This is the best movie I’ve seen this year so far, and I think what really made this one work is it isn’t overly cheesy or campy. What we have is a straight up western movie, and I love westerns, however instead of Indians or an outlaw that is causing the trouble it just happens to be aliens. The affects in this movie are really good, which helps keep away from the campiness. If you like Westerns, Sci-Fi movies, or just fun you have to see this movie, I really can’t stress it enough. It’s a great western where they fight aliens, it is Cowboys & Aliens.
